Subaru Legacy for Sale: Compare Before You Request

A Subaru Legacy for sale in 2026 is leftover 2025 stock or a used sedan. Compare the engines and condition, then send a clear vehicle request.
A Subaru Legacy for sale in 2026 is almost always a used or certified car, not a current new model. Subaru of America said on April 23, 2024 that production would end in spring 2025, when the 2025 model year ended. The Indiana plant built the final sedan on September 12, 2025. You are comparing remaining cars and used years, not waiting for a 2026 Legacy.
Start a Subaru Legacy vehicle request
This guide is the comparison step. It covers the two engines that carried the seventh generation, and what to write down before two cars look the same. It also covers how to send a request that names the car you want.
Automotive Car Brokers is a vehicle brokerage and sourcing service, not a dealership. It does not hold the cars shown on its site.
What a Subaru Legacy for sale looks like now
Subaru designed the Legacy for the American market and built U.S. cars at its Indiana plant from the 1989 debut onward. The April 23, 2024 announcement said the line had reached six generations and more than 1.3 million U.S. sales.
The September 18, 2025 plant release put the final count at 36 years and nearly 1.4 million units. The last car off the line was a Magnetite Gray Limited. That same release said the Legacy debuted on September 11, 1989 as the first Subaru built in the United States. Two dates matter if you are still hoping for a brand-new sedan.
- April 23, 2024. Subaru of America said production would end in spring 2025, at the conclusion of the 2025 model year. That release also said EyeSight is standard on all models.
- September 12, 2025. Subaru of Indiana Automotive drove the final Legacy off the line. After that date, a new Legacy is leftover dealer stock, not a model Subaru is still building.
Subaru's current Legacy page says you may still find certified pre-owned models, and that a 2025 car may still be at a local retailer. It does not promise one near you. Treat a remaining new car as a specific stock number to verify, not as a trim you can order.
Decide new, used, or certified before you shop
The three paths are not the same search. Mixing them is how a shortlist fills up with cars you would not buy.
Leftover new 2025 cars
A new 2025 Legacy is a car a retailer still has, with the equipment Subaru built for that VIN. Subaru's 2025 features page says EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is standard. DriverFocus is standard on Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. If the car is still new, the window sticker is the equipment list. Do not assume a lower trim has DriverFocus.
Used Legacy sedans
Most of the market is used. A used Legacy can be any generation, with any service history. Newer is not automatically the better buy.
A 2021 with incomplete records can be a worse car for you than a 2018 with documented service and a clean inspection. Write the year, mileage, and the records you still need before you compare asking prices.
Certified pre-owned
Subaru's 2025 page points shoppers who missed the new car toward certified pre-owned models. Certification is the manufacturer's program on that specific car, not a word in the ad.
Ask which inspection the car passed, what the certified coverage includes, and whether that coverage transfers. If the seller cannot name the program, compare the car as an ordinary used sedan.
Engines and years on a Subaru Legacy for sale
The current body is the seventh generation, which Subaru introduced as the all-new 2020 Legacy. EyeSight was standard, and so was Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru Corporation unveiled the U.S.-spec 2020 model in Chicago on February 7, 2019. The release is dated February 8, 2019. Do not treat 2019 as the model year.
Two engines define that generation. Subaru's current 2025 Legacy page states the output.
- 2.5-liter BOXER. Direct injection, 182 horsepower. This is the standard engine on the 2025 Legacy page. It is the efficiency-oriented choice.
- 2.4-liter turbo BOXER. Direct injection, 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque on the 2025 page. Subaru marked these XT. The 2025 Sport uses this 2.4-liter turbo.
The official EPA ratings for the 2025 Legacy show the trade. Both rows are all-wheel drive with an automatic transmission.
| Engine | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5L, 182 hp. | 27 mpg. | 35 mpg. | 30 mpg. |
| 2.4L turbo, 260 hp. | 23 mpg. | 31 mpg. | 26 mpg. |
Those rows are from fueleconomy.gov for the 2025 model year. The 2.5-liter uses about 3.3 gallons per 100 miles. The 2.4-liter turbo uses about 3.8. Subaru's 2025 page also cites up to 35 MPG, which matches the 2.5-liter highway figure, not the turbo.
A 2020 through 2024 car can differ. Read that car's sticker or the EPA row for its model year before you assume these numbers. Older than 2020 is a different car. Do not copy seventh-generation horsepower onto a 2015. If the ad does not name the engine, ask for it before you compare two prices.
Compare trims by the equipment you will use
Trim names are a label, not a feature list. On the seventh generation, the split that changes the drive is the engine. XT means the 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo. The other trims use the 182-horsepower 2.5-liter.
Subaru's 2025 features page says DriverFocus is standard on Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. A Base or Premium may not have it. Use a short list and ignore badge order.
- Engine. 182-hp 2.5-liter, or 260-hp 2.4-liter turbo. Pick this before the package.
- DriverFocus. Standard on 2025 Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. Confirm it on a used car instead of assuming the trim still has it.
- Phone connection. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available with the 2025 system. Confirm the screen and the phone connection on the car, not from a brochure year.
- Condition items that outrank the badge. Tires, brakes, recorded maintenance, and accident history can matter more than an extra cabin feature.
If two cars have the same engine and the equipment you listed, the cheaper ask is not the better buy until the history matches. A missing service record is a reason to slow down, not a detail to settle after you have traveled.
Set the budget around the car, not the asking price
The advertised price is one number. A usable comparison adds the costs that change between two specific cars.
- The ask, and what is included. Fees and dealer add-ons can move the out-the-door figure more than the trim difference.
- Near-term work. Tires, brakes, and overdue service belong in the price of a used car. A certified car can still need tires.
- Fuel. On the 2025 EPA rows, the turbo uses more fuel per mile than the 2.5-liter. Use that gap only as a planning difference, not as your fuel bill.
- Distance. If the car is in another state, transport or the trip to collect it is part of the same comparison.
Automotive Car Brokers can arrange delivery anywhere in the United States, or you can pick the car up. That is a claim about the service. It is not a promise that a particular Legacy is available, or that a used car will land at a given number. Keep the budget you will accept in the request so a match is a match.
Check condition the same way on every used car
Use one pass so the second car does not get a softer look than the first.
- Identify the car. Year, trim, engine, mileage, and VIN. Confirm the engine is the 2.5-liter or the 2.4-liter turbo before you compare it with another Legacy.
- Read the history. Ask for service records, the title status, and whether the car has been in a reported accident. Open recall status is worth a check on the VIN.
- Look at wear items. Tires, brakes, and glass tell you about the next year of ownership. Uneven tire wear is a question, not a reason to guess at alignment.
- Confirm the safety equipment you care about. EyeSight is standard on the 2025 models. On a used car, confirm the camera system is present and that a replaced windshield was calibrated.
- Drive it with one job. Use a highway merge, a rough surface, and a slow parking-lot turn. Listen for a drone or a clunk you would not want on a long trip. All-wheel drive is standard on this generation. A dry test drive does not demonstrate it.
Ask the seller three things in writing: the engine, what service was done and when, and whether the car is certified or only called certified in the ad. If the answers are vague, keep the car on the list only as a maybe.
How to send a request that can be searched
Automotive Car Brokers does not hold inventory. A request has to describe a car the broker can look for. The live site says Greg searches nine lots and works the dealer side.
Delivery can be arranged anywhere in the United States, or you can pick the car up. New and pre-owned are different searches. Subaru is one of the listed new-vehicle makes. Pre-owned is any make.
A useful Legacy request names these points:
- New leftover 2025, certified, or ordinary used. Pick one as the preference and name the backup.
- Year range. For seventh-generation equipment, say 2020 through 2025. Say so if an older generation is acceptable.
- Engine. 182-hp 2.5-liter, 260-hp 2.4-liter turbo, or either.
- Must-have equipment, limited to what you will use. DriverFocus or the phone connection is enough. A long wish list makes a real car look wrong.
- Maximum mileage, the colors you will not take, and the budget that includes transport.
- A stock number if you already found the car. The site asks you to send that number so Greg can work the price.
The public pages do not agree on Greg's years or license number, so neither figure belongs in this decision. The Subaru buying path is where a Subaru request starts. Read how the search works if you want the steps before you write the description.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still buy a new Subaru Legacy?
Only if a retailer still has a 2025 in stock. Subaru ended production at the conclusion of the 2025 model year, and the Indiana plant built the final car on September 12, 2025. There is no 2026 Legacy to order. Confirm the VIN and the window sticker before you treat an ad as a new car.
What is the difference between the two Legacy engines?
On the seventh generation, the standard engine is a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter BOXER. The XT and the 2025 Sport use a 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo with 277 lb-ft. For 2025, the EPA rates the 2.5-liter at 30 mpg combined and the turbo at 26 mpg combined. Both are all-wheel drive.
Which years count as the current Legacy?
Subaru introduced the seventh generation as the 2020 model. The 2020 through 2025 cars share that body and the two engines above. A 2019 or older Legacy is the previous generation, so its power and equipment are not the 2020 figures. Read the year on the title, not the styling in the photo.
Does Automotive Car Brokers have a Legacy in stock?
No. The company states that it holds no inventory and does not price or offer the vehicles shown on the site. A request asks Greg to search the nine lots and work the dealer side. A match still has to be confirmed with the retailer that has the car.
What should I send if I already found a Legacy online?
Send the stock number, the year, the engine, and the asking price, along with the mileage and the distance from you. Use the pre-owned vehicle page if the car is used, or the request form if you are starting from a description. Either way, say whether you want delivery or you will pick the car up.
